A tuba Christmas

Well?  Did you have a lovely weekend—filled with festivity and what-not?

My weekend was quite full, actually.  And—as all years—I now recall why, exactly, I want to get preparations finished by the first of December.  After that, I just haven’t the time!

All the same, I had plenty to warm my heart … including the Tuba Christmas. It takes place each year, at our capital’s rotunda. A Christmas tradition, we go to cheer on my dad, snap photos, and take in the deep, boom of tuba’s at play.  It’s a grand affair … though, I must admit, this year I missed the little old man, who played his little old tuba, festooned with lights.

Now with another weekend behind us, I’m looking forward to the arrival of family.  In just a few short days I’ll be able to attack my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew with hugs and kisses–I’m so excited!  Seriously.  It’s a bit insane.

They, on the other hand, may not be so very, very thrilled.  The idea of traveling with a toddler for 22 hours has a funny way of putting a damper on the excitement. That said, you may want to send up a prayer … or twenty.

And with that, I’m off to take inventory; but I leave you a few snapshots from Tuba Christmas, Boise-style …

Warm winter wishes

{from my home to yours ... okay, from my sidewalk}

As you might have guessed from yesterday’s photo, the snow turned to rain; they’re  promising the flurries will be back.  All the better to wrap presents and attend my first official Christmas party with, I guess!

As for you, dear friends, no matter the weather I pray you’ll have a weekend as snug as a bug in a rug … warm, safe and content.

Merona is our friend

I received a gift card to Target for my birthday, you see–and I had every intention of using it to buy a new bookcase.  But alas, on my way to the furniture aisle, I happened upon these …

{Friends, Meritie ... Mertie, Friends}

Merona’s® Mertie MaryJanes–and they are truly fabulous.

Needless to say, I still have piles upon piles of books littered about the floor, but my feet are ready for the holidays.  And I do mean ready.  Not only are these shoes like a party on your foot, they’re oh-so-comfy.  AND they’ve got treads. TREADS I tell you.  Now I’m not one to risk breaking my neck for fashion, but when I saw the bottoms of these wee heels I decided to give them a try … even in the snow and ice.  Sure enough, nary a mishap.

If you’ve read my blog for long, you know how truly amazing this is.

So why am I tell you this?  Because I care, that’s why.  I noticed they’re sold out online.  So if you have a Target nearby, and Mertie happens to be in stock, do not think twice–take them home {after you pay for them, naturally}.  Then, not only will you be quite able to help Santa {for no one will hear you coming} … but you’ll be ready for the party afterwards–where, I imagine, you’ll want to give an eggnog toast in my honor!

Snow day!

Oh bother … I’m behind again, aren’t I?  Sigh.

It is, however, a snow day.

Remember snow days?  We use to live for snow days … the first sight of a flake and we were earnestly praying for bucket loads … snow us in if you have to, just PLEASE do not make us go to school!  And when they’d finally make the announcement that our school was, indeed, closed … it was nothing short of miraculous … a whole, free day to play!

As an adult, it’s nothing of the sort.

Now some of you may be under the impression that I have a good attitude about the snow.  Uh-uh.  No way.  I do try.   And I do a mighty fine job, if I do say so myself … until I have to chisel my windshields, drive in it alongside crazy people … and shovel … OH, the shoveling!!!

Last week I’m fairly certain I was a sight to behold.  Because not only was it snow … but ice beneath the snow … with the occasional wind gust that would blow the shovelled snow back into my face.  And you must know, there are a few neighbors who probably wonder about me to begin with.  I rarely leave for work.  There are days when I’m holed up in the house all day … and when I emerge, I’m pasty white and squinting in the brightness of the day.  Vampire, perhaps?  There’s really no way of knowing.

Now, suddenly, there I am out in the driveway, trying to will my puny arms to shovel mounds of snow … sliding … flailing … exclaiming a few choice words.  At one point I actually threw my shovel down and exclaimed to the heavens, “I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE ALLURE!” No doubt said neighbors were peeking through the window, pointing, and saying, “Good heavens!  Look at the crazy neighbor woman now! “

Thankfully for us all, there are moments like this morning … when the snow falls as dainty confetti … and the world is filled with peace.

Since I’m sitting here, snug as a bug in a rug … sipping coffee, surrounded by Christmas lights … I’ll focus on the fact that this is the perfect weather get stuff done–write a Christmas letter, sign cards, wrap presents, bake a cookie or two.  But I cannot guarantee such feelings will last once I get out in it.  Just so you know.

And what about you?  How are you faring on this first day of December?

Onward and outward

{on behalf of my mum, a big thank you for the kind birthday wishes!}

Did you have a lovely Thanksgiving holiday?  I did–other than a major fail on the pumpkin pie, it was good times all around!  It was full of family and friends, lounging about and out having fun. Speaking of which, I saw Unstoppable …just in case you were dying to know.  It’s a great movie–but the STRESS!  Nothing says “good times” quite like coming out of a movie theatre with a nervous tick …

Now, I’m off to catch up on work and run around to finish Christmas.  Actually, it’s more like waddle around.  I don’t even want to know the poundage gained–between Thanksgiving dinner and leftovers?  Are you kidding me?!  But, I dare say, it was oh-so-worth it.

If only I could find time to work it off–which is ironic, considering I’m currently editing a book on fitness.

With that, happy Monday my friends, happy Monday …
