My kind of March madness

Did you know ‘March’ originated in ancient Rome, as the first month of the Roman calendar? Of course, back then it was known as Martius, after Mars, the Greek god of war. This remains oddly appropriate; after all, many of us are so close to spring . . . and yet, so very far away. I guess it’s only fitting to add a hint of green to our homes. The color renewal and relaxation is bound to get us through. Of course, a nod to luck doesn’t hurt either . . .

Le Temps Perdu

What is with me and French post titles? Ah well, c’est la vie . . .

I imagine part of it stems from the fact that, given the choice, I will lean toward the romantic, every time. I’m quite hopeless that way. No doubt that’s why I love stories as I do. They allow for time travel; for a moment, you’re transported to another place, another time. And you’re free to return any time you wish–back to  modern conveniences and that which you know to be true.

Perhaps that’s why I love me a bit of Steampunk, too. It connects both worlds–the real and the fantastical–reminding us of all that could be. . .

So tell me, if you could take a holiday to another time, when would it be?

Back in the day

Remember the days when city builders focused on architectural detail? When you made calls through an operator, or paid a visit face-to-face? Remember when you’d work hard during the week, but come the weekend, you’d dress to the nines to dance the night away?

Yeah, I don’t either.

Perhaps that’s why I do so love vintage fashion . . .

Soft feminine details for the women, straight lines you can rely on for the men. Not only do they harken back o a simpler time, they echo a time of promise. And it’s all in the details . . .

Thankfully, a part of that lives on with the likes of Vecona Vintage. Don’t you just love the way they display their pieces in vintage photo frames? *swoon*

Mi casa et su casa

My friend is in town for training . . . which means we get to hang out in the evenings. Yesterday we opted for dinner and a trip to the mall. After all, there were souvenirs to pick up (it simply wouldn’t do for a mother to come home empty handed);and stores to visit without the need to keep an eye on kids. So it was we meandered into the Pottery Barn.

This was a first for me. While I love pretty much everything the store has to offer, I’ve long feared the associates much too snooty for my liking. They exceeded my expectations. Not only did they refuse to utter a word (we were the only ones in the store, I might add); they looked with disdain our direction. As if we had the nerve to impede on their quiet time.

Whatever. I was much too busy admiring these glasses . . .

I do not, however, support people with attitude problems. So if you happen to see anything similar, elsewhere, do let me know!

Wondrous, propitious junk mail

Well, you can tell the holidays are over–junk mail once again rules the post. Seems a pity . . . until you see the likes of personal recycling from Tweedle Press.

Tweedle Press–can you stand it?! I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for character. As if that weren’t enough, they can take your junk mail and turn it to handcrafted paper. It’s an amazing feat of daring adventure . . .

Of course, magical goings-on, such as this, do not come cheaply. So save those pennies while you collect that junk mail; then, when it’s all said and done, you can send it all back to those you love most. That’s happiness!
