It does not take long to realize our family is not afraid to let our freak flag fly. With that in mind, I suppose it’s only natural that I would be drawn to banners. Banners made of paper, and those made of bunting. Bright, colorful banners, and those of muted tones. I love them.
Because they’re fun and fanciful…
Because they tell a story…
Because they add character to even the dullest of rooms…
Because they make me feel like this, even when it’s cold and blustry outside, and I’m stuck indoors …
*sigh*

On this day (September 10th), 1935, Popeye was aired on NBC radio. By that time, polls showed his popularity had surpassed that of Mickey Mouse – by a small margin, but a margin all the same.
I don’t know about you, but that funny-looking-fellow holds a special place in my heart. My brother and I watched him on television. My grampa would scrunch his face and chortle like him, to make us laugh – which it always did, without fail. And my brother couldn’t quite pronounced his name, so it came out Peye-peye. To this day, when I’m eating spinach, I say, “Mmmm … I’m gonna be strong! Like Peye-peye the sailor-man!” Can’t be helped.
It just goes to show, a character doesn’t have to beautiful or profound to touch lives.
So here’s to popeye-
For making us laugh …
inspiring us eat our veggies …
giving us memories …
thank you!
Aaahhh… the glorious three-day-weekend! What might your plans be?
I will be spending the weekend with my Ana Sonja. That’s right. A wee road trip to the high desert – where we will lounge about and do a whole lot of nothing. After a somewhat hectic week, I simply cannot wait!
So here’s to family … and friends … last minute camping trips … and wee holidays … good food … and good conversation … a splendid weekend … and a laid-back labor day!

Speaking of the bright side – do I have a treat for you!* The Bright Side Project - whose mission is to bring you a daily dose of sunshine – offers themed, daily giveaways. That’s right, glorious, gratuitous gifts! AND(!) they ship internationally. *Squee!* All you have to do is visit their website and leave a comment – for each day, you see, they pose a question and you must answer. Sometimes the question is light-hearted, other times, thought provoking. The artist or designer chooses the response they like best; and the winner appears in the Winner’s box. It’s once a day- so you can’t be too bitter that I hooked you on yet another diversion. Not to mention, you might find the very thing you never knew you always needed. All while working on your commenting skills. It’s a win-win, really … go on … see for yourself!
*If you happen to be girly; I did so try to find something for the manly, but, alas …
