Walking toward adventure

As you may have guessed, I care not to wait. Friends scoff when they hear mention of my name anywhere near “patience.”

And yet here I am, waiting. I’m not loving it.

At this point there’s but one thing to be done: go shoe shopping, naturally.

When I cleaned out my bedroom closet last week, I finally let go of my Stonefly Mary Janes. I bought them years go; and by years, we’re talking closer to decades. I loved them to bits. So classic; so comfy. I can’t begin to tell you the places I walked in those shoes, the dances I danced. They neared the end once before, mind you–but it was nothing a Shoe Doctor couldn’t fix. Today, however, it would have required total reconstruction.

Saying goodbye to faithful goods rivals waiting.

And yet these fellows promise to ease the pain … oh yes, I think they just might …

A few of my favorite things

Forget bright copper kettles, I’ll take these Booker boots from J. Crew anyday…

Of course, I’m not one-hundred percent certain what it is that incites the most excitement: could be their classic design, could be the fact that they have BOOK in their name. Either way, they’re sure to walk you straight toward fallish adventure and delight. Wouldn’t you agree? And let’s not forget this little perk: even if you aren’t able to visit Italy, at least you could know your footware hailed from there.

My autumn’s so bright

I always like to get a little something new for each season–maybe a candle holder, maybe a table runner–just a little something to welcome the new season into my home. So, I was perusing Etsy the other day, looking for fallish wares I couldn’t possibly live without, when I happened upon these …

Handcrafted wooden faced cat-eyed sunglasses, people! Seriously, can you even stand it?!  I, needless to say, cannot. You know, the sun does shine in the autumn. There’s an Indian summer going on, even as I type. Now that I mention it, that snow can be pretty bright too…

Curly Girl’s Repurposed Candle

Last Saturday, in honor of a visit from my aunt and uncle, my mom hosted a family BBQ. As a hostess gift, my aunt gave this …

It’s a candle … no wait, it’s a juice glass. Clever, non?! And don’t you just love the way they attached a matching box of matches? Pretty sure we all need each and every one. After all, they’re bright and cheery–perfect for setting about at a summer gathering, or when the candle is gone, greeting guests at a Sunday brunch. Even if you can’t imagine another juice glass, I’m fairly certain it would make a fabulous vase, too!

A gathering place

My mom inherited my great-grandmother’s dining room set. For my grandmother’s birthday last year, 10 people sat around that table … and one leaf remained in the garage.

Someday, I’ll have a long table all my own. After all, it’s more than a place to eat–it’s a place to gather those you love most. To share food, yes–but also love, laughter, ideas and celebration.

Personally, I think this one would be perfect …

Better yet? The craftsmen behind the table not only believe in the power of a good table–they search out old barns for the wood.

Good story + good food + good friends? You don’t get much richer than that …
