I’ve decided to learn swedish. Wait, let me rephrase … I’ve decided to attempt to learn swedish.
It’s not like I haven’t thought about it before. I have. As a matter of fact, I bought a CD in preparation for my first trip to Sweden. I popped in the player, took one listen to the Swedish tongue twisters {who starts a language learning program with tongue twisters?}, my mouth gaped, my eyes glazed over, and that was that.
So what’s with the about face, you ask?
My nephew … who just so happens to be my godson. Two in November, he’s starting to jabber away–in english and in swedish. This causes quite the kerfuffle because I can’t tell the difference between actual words and gibberish. When we Skype, I’m constantly having to ask the likes of, “Wha?” “Huh?” “Was that a known language?”
This must be remedied, my friends.
I figure if I start now, by the time he’s sixteen I may have a slight idea what he’s saying under his breath. And by the time he’s twenty-one, he just might have an aunt who knows a thing or two.
The upside: if I learn Swedish, it shouldn’t be that far of a leap to learn Danish. And then I’ll be able to mark an item off my perverbial bucket list: be proficient in at least three languages.
Imagine how attractive I’ll be then!
Do wish me luck…
How cool that your nephew is learning Swedish! Is he living there now?? I would love to take on another language (preferrably French), but I guess I'm doing fairly well since I'm proficient in two already -Spanish & English 🙂
It is pretty cool … except for the part where he lives across the ocean and I never get to kiss those cheeks! Since he has an aunt who's deaf, he's actually learning three languages!
And you are doing good. I should learn Spanish too. I've tried French … repeatedly, but it ain't pretty …
good for you!! I am still trying to master (well, learn) my english grammar…. obviously.
lycka till Amy! Vad kul! But don´t worry. he knows english quite well 🙂
Oh, I'll need luck alright!!!
