erfuffle. Ker.fuf.fle. A commotion.
“The prince, falling for a commoner, caused quite the kerfuffle.”
According to Merriam-Webster, it’s an alternation of carfuffle, which most like originates from the Scottish Gaelic Cearr, meaning wrong or awkward and fuffle, to become disheveled. So I, personally, prefer a definition along the lines of “an awkward disheveling” … but that’s just me.
With our thanks: “Daily Drop Cap by Jessica Hische.”
I'm going to use it in a sentence today! Can't wait to get the "blank stares" 🙂
As you should … and they'll just be jealous that you can throw around such a fabulous word! 🙂
I so have to make it my mission to use this today!! (and btw just saw those drop caps by jessica this week – aren't they fun!)
