I’m not sure what it was–perhaps the cooler weather, anticipation of a weekend filled with enjoyment, or the fact that after losing all edits (minus the last four pages) to a small book I was working on, and having to start from scratch, painting the deck seemed like a good idea. Now I know what you’re thinking: didn’t you just paint that deck? I know, because that’s exactly what I was thinking. And yes, yes I did. But the winter was especially brutal; or maybe it was just that I didn’t prime before painting last year. I don’t know. What I do know is our deck is special. It’s old … designed kinda funny … and built of a constitution akin to Driftwood.
So each year we perform triage; we re-hammer nails, power-wash, sand, and slather on a coat of paint … all the while thinking, next year, we’ll simply tear it down and start afresh. With that in mind, I draw the line at topical cleaners, removing prior paint, or applying primers. And really, with a solid stain, it doesn’t look half bad. Unfortunately, this year I somehow picked up a semi-transparent.
It still looks good, mind you … so long as you stand from a distance, hold your breath, close one eye, tilt your head to the side, and squint. Quite frankly, I’m just going to go with it (let this be a warning to any of you who might be invited over between now and the end of summer).
Needless to say, I’m quite excited for the weekend. And I hope yours is great, any way you look at it …
a happy weekend to you, my friends!
You're a girl after my own heart, Amy! I say go with it 🙂 You won't even notice if you're in the company of great friends and having good food and conversation! Enjoy your weekend!
