My May Day turned out quite lovely. Though I was ridiculously lazy myself, just look at the flowers that made their way to my doorstep (can you stand the polka dot theme?!)! There were a few cards, too–wishes for a happy day.
I discovered my boss is a May Day connoisseur, as well. Warmed the cockles of my heart. It came up, before a meeting. Someone mentioned she thought May Day only for kids, to which my boss replied, “Well, there are some of us who believe May Day should be a national holiday.” Exactly.
And while the day started with freezing temps, the sun did come out to play for a bit. Let’s face it–that always helps with the festivity. That and drinks with umbrellas, which I had, too.
So yes, lovely, indeed.
Yesterday was a bit tough. We learned the company will be laying off over 200 people at a mill. It broke my heart. It was all I could do not to cry, all day.
Naturally, I didn’t feel like going out last night. I almost called it off and slinked off to hide under covers with a good book. But, I haven’t seen my friend for ages, so I went. What do you know? We chatted about layoffs; we chatted about the hardships of starting your own business. We drank huckleberry fusions. We ate a plateful of cheeses and chocolate therapy ice cream. We walked around downtown until we had blisters. And we laughed, until the tears streamed down our faces.
Let’s be honest: sometimes life sucks. Thankfully, good friends, flowers, and laughter prove a healing medicine. It’s good to have a good dose of each, every single day.
Maybe you better take an extra dose this weekend, just to be on the safe side . . .
A good weekend to you, my friends!
aw, that is such a shame that they're laying off so many people!
I've never really celebrated May Day!
It is. Their hands were tide, really, thanks to the market. Everybody wants everything electronically. They don't think (or don't care) about those who will lose their livelihoods because of it. Sigh.
As for May Day, you simply must! It's quite fun! 🙂
You're so right – sometimes life sucks. And the only things that can get you through it all are your friends and support system. And alcohol.

Well, I am all about offering sage advice. Obviously. 🙂
