You’ll never guess what’s on my agenda for the weekend.
A baby shower, for starters.
They’re always iffy. I love the mamas. I love the babies. I love the wee outfits, the toys, and the glorious childrens’ books. I do not, however, love the games. Not so much a game person. I don’t want to sniff a diaper filled with melted chocolate; I don’t to get laughed at, pointed at, or otherwise dinged for saying the word ‘baby;’ I don’t want to pin the sperm on the egg (although, as baby shower games go, even I must admit that one is a bit ingenious).
I do try to be a good sport. I do. Unfortunately, that often entails trying to amuse myself in a game I otherwise find unamusing. Like the shower where they spelled out the baby’s name–B-R-A-N-D-O-N–then demanded we pen an adjective for each letter. That’s just asking for trouble, if you ask me. And they did. They asked us all to read aloud our descriptions . . . “B is for blessed” . . . “R is for righteous” . . . “A is for Admirable” . . . “O is for odd, but in a good way.” I do believe that was my mother’s. It’s all a blur. But I do know, between the two of us, we had some gems. I also know we were the only ones giggling at our own hilarity–and that was the last baby shower I was ever invited to for that particular friend.
That said, do wish me luck.
Whatever your plans I hope they’re free of things you dislike. May your days be highlighted with a little cuteness and maybe something (or someone) new!
Happy weekend, my friends!
