Three weeks from today we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving . . .
There for a while Thanksgiving was the neglected stepchild of the holiday season. This year, however, it seems to be making a bit of a comeback. Pinterest, for one, is abuzz with settings for your holiday table, recipes for your holiday feast.
Warms my heart, it does.
Of course, where recipes are concerned, I never stray far. I’m a creature of habit—and ridiculously sentimental. When it comes to Thanksgiving, there are staples that mustn’t be trifled with: mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes wrapped in a blanket of marshmallows, baked to a golden crisp, pilgrim pumpkin pie with freshly whipped ginger cream.
That leaves wiggle room for a vegetable and the way the bird is prepared. This year I do believe we’ll be trying a spiced turkey with cherry-pear glaze recipe (from Better Homes & Gardens). Sounds like something to be thankful for, in and of itself.
Needless to say, if the country you call home does not celebrate Thanksgiving, you might consider adopting it as your own. After all, there’s nothing quite like setting aside a day in which to offer gratitude . . . eat yourself silly . . . then lounge about with those you love most.
I've never been super into thanksgiving but every year in Australia I make mashed potatoes and peas, purchase some cranberry sauce and that is my thanksgiving (I am vegetarian afterall).
Mmm . . . mashed potatoes and peas! What more do you need, really? Except maybe one of your delectable GF desserts!
I really cannot believe that my favourite holiday is coming up so soon. And can you believe I've never had the sweet potato / marshmallow combo?!

GASP! That's a sad, sad state of affairs . . .
Well, when you give a try be sure to bake the marshmallows to a nice, golden color . . . for crispy goodness. Sigh. 🙂
