We awoke Saturday morning to a winter wonderland . . .
The perfect setting for A Tuba Christmas. You see, this time each year tuba players, both young and old, gather in the rotunda of our state’s capital building . . .
While members of this hodge-podge of a Christmas band do receive music ahead of time, there are no rehearsals; yet they manage to come together in grand fashion all the same . . .
Finding a spot from which to watch the concert–well, that gets more tricky with each passing year; so far I’ve managed to squeeze in where I can . . .
This year, a little girl and I became fast friends. She loved me for my camera, mind you, but I didn’t mind. She threw her arm around my shoulders and together we watched the spectacle, below. Every once in awhile she’d look at me and say, “Where’s your papa?” So I’d zoom in, and we’d have ourselves a better look . . .
To me, it’s the perfect start to Christmas. For a brief moment in time, it’s not about the most impressive light display, price tags, or important to-dos. It’s a community—young and old, rich and poor—coming together to celebrate the simplest (and greatest) of joys . . .
In all my years in Boise, I never got to see this concert! How sad. Looks like it was a great time, and I can just imagine how wonderful the music sounded in that gorgeous building. Thanks for sharing!

Awww, I remember performing at all those Christmas concerts in years past… they were always the most fun (not only because of the Santa hats)
